Business/Technology Intern - Ann Arbor, MI
You like to figure things out. You're friendly. You love to help. Just add our training and you'll be ready to succeed in this rewarding internship program.
What type of work will I do?
-Answer customer’s questions on how to use our software
-Troubleshoot software problems
-Talk with accountants and tax practitioners from all over the country
-Discuss complex issues with senior members of our staff
-Attend meetings relevant to your product
What will I learn?
You will be trained on one of our tax preparation applications and will learn how to help customers with all facets of that product. Besides basic technical terminology, network environments, operating systems and tax law, you’ll also learn:
-Effective communication techniques for the business environment
-How to think on your feet
-Professionalism
-Time management
-What it takes to be a successful member of our staff
The result is in-depth knowledge of aspects such as itemized deductions, interest & dividends, capital gains & losses, depreciation, how the income statement and balance sheet correlate to the tax return, file structures, computer navigation and troubleshooting methods.
Based on need and preference, there is also the possibility for additional training in either tax or systems. The tax training would be on a second entity type, such as corporate or partnership returns. The systems training would include installation in multiple environments, computer setup, utilizing task manager and windows registry, and windows troubleshooting tools.

How many interns are you hiring?
For the Fall/Winter session we are targeting 20, and for the Winter session we are targeting 30.

Important facts about the program:
-You'll start with 3-4 weeks of intensive, paid training in our Ann Arbor office
-Most interns do not take classes during the program due to its demanding and rigorous nature, however an on line or evening class could be accommodated
-This internship prepares you for many professions – in an accounting firm, at Thomson Reuters or in other business or technology companies
-Many interns have continued with the company and built successful careers in Product Support, Sales, Product Development, Helpdesk, Technology Infrastructure and other areas of the company
Qualifications
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Motivated and enthusiastic to learn
• Desire to help others
• Knowledge of computer navigation functions
• Ability to work 40-60 hours/week on a varied schedule as needed
• Able to work in our Ann Arbor, MI office

• Demonstrated success working in customer service
• Coursework or experience with accounting, computers, information systems, or other technology or business disciplines
